This special unique gig will 'celebrate' the appearance of John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett on BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test on 18th October 1977. Forty years later to the day they'll be re-enacting their original appearance, which has become the stuff of legends.
From the age of 9, John Otway knew he wanted to be a pop star but he had to wait until 1977 and the rise of punk before his dream of fame and fortune would finally become a reality. Having caught the eye of the producers of the BBC's Old Grey Whistle Test, Otway's performance on that show would grab the attention of the watching audience. A simple act of recklessness and a wanton disregard for his own safety made Otway the talk of everyone who watched that evening's programme.
Wild Willy Barrett, known as the Godfather of Grunge Folk, is a highly respected musician whose styles include folk, blues, gypsy jazz, reggae, bluegrass and punk. He has toured with Police, Madness and many more, been guitarist for George Hamilton IV, and recorded ‘The Contemporary Folk Guitar’ album with Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Gordon Giltrap & Ralph McTell. All in all, he has had a long and varied career, and is happy with the enigmatic status he has achieved.
